The Problem
This high level gutter vacuuming job was on a tall Regency townhouse in Cheltenham. The property sits in a terrace of elegant period homes, with gutters several storeys above the street.
Gutters at this height are hard to reach, so they often get missed for years. Leaves, moss and silt build up until the water overflows down the painted stucco, which can cause staining and damp.
The Challenge
Reaching gutters on a building like this with ladders is slow and risky. Scaffolding would have been costly and disruptive for a cleaning job. The ornate balconies and railings at the front made access even harder.
The homeowner needed the gutters cleared safely and quickly, without damage to the building. Cheltenham’s Regency houses have their own maintenance quirks, which we cover in how Regency architecture shaped roof design in Cheltenham.
The Solution
We used our high level gutter vacuum system. It uses lightweight poles that reach up to the gutters from the ground, connected to a powerful industrial vacuum.
Our operative worked along the gutter from street level, guiding the nozzle through the run. The vacuum pulled out leaves, moss and silt, which went straight into the collection drum rather than onto the pavement below.
Because everything was done from the ground, there were no ladders against the stucco or railings, and no one working at height.
The Result
The gutters were left clear, so rainwater can flow freely to the downpipes again. The job was done quickly and cleanly, with minimal disruption to the homeowner and the street.
Regular vacuuming like this helps prevent overflows, damp and the costly damage that blocked gutters can cause over time.
